Last weekend, we had to go to Ohio for a few days, and we had the opportunity to visit with both of our brothers. Mine lives in Youngstown, and Michael's is a dairy farmer in Plain City. While we were at the farm Monday, Tom started the evening milking (He milks 40 cows.), and I noticed the sky above the milking parlor. Tom and Sue's two dogs (Paulie and Lacy- left and right) had to get in the photo, too.
A question for you: We asked Tom how much milk he could get out of the average cow each day (2 milkings). He gave us his high/low amounts. Can you guess the range of how many pounds he can get from a cow in a day? Tune in tomorrow for the answer.

Hmm... just wondering how can you measure milk in pounds? I would guess that a single cow can produce about 10 gallons per day, with 40 cows that would come out to 400 gallons.
It's a good looking sky. Love the cute doggies! Lots of people around here are gearing up for Gustav. I may be naive, but I'm not too worried about it hitting Jackson.

I admire dairy farmers because cows DO NOT take a day off from producing milk. When I was small the milk truck would pick up two to four cans of milk daily and there were not forty cows so I know it is a greater number than I would expect. Peace
I like those milky clouds. This city girl has no idea of how much milk (does a milk cow milk if a milk cow could...) You know, I'll be very interested in the answer.

I'm not sure about pounds. But, our cows use to produce a little more than 2.5 gallons at a time. So, I'd say about 5 to 6 gallons a day.

Ye old dairy barn! I have no idea about the amount of milk, but they used to get about a bucketful by hand. By machine, well, I'd say two gallons? How many lbs. is that??
