Magnificent Mini Magnolia

Because of last year's drought, we lost a lot of trees and bushes.  We replaced all of them in the fall with other plants and are trying to keep them alive in somewhat similar conditions this summer.  One of the trees we bought as a replacement is this mini magnolia.  I love magnolias, but everyone told me that they tend to be very messy and that the mini versions are much better.  Ours is only about 4 ft. tall, but the first buds are starting to bloom (above).  The magnolia always brings to mind (at least to me), the slow, southern summers.

The next two days will be very busy around NDP.  I'll have photos to post about the events surrounding us in the next few days.

Greetings from Juneau, Alaska!
I've never seen a real live magnolia before (only photos). They sure are beautiful. I can't wait to see what yours looks like when it opens.

Magnolia trees are so nice. I have been wanting to take pictures of the blooms, but they all look so tall.

They're beautiful. Our neighborhood bought 'dwarf magnolias' for a common area. Unfortunately they weren't dwarves for long. They had to be replaced when they outgrew the space!

Oh sigh.... If only I could smell it too. Beautiful... Beautiful... Beautiful...

Best of luck with the "New Stuff Happening"! You are *mean* and continuing to keep me in suspense, about what this is. >,-) But, I guess I'll find out, when everyone else does. :-)))

Magnolias just sound so southern; maybe it's because of all the novels I've read and movies I've seen:)

How tall do they grow?

There are a lot of different types of magnolias. The large ones can grow 40-50 feet in height. The minis grow about 12 feet.

Magnolia's hold the same image for me as well. Good luck with the garden! It is a challenge but such lovely results to enjoy. Take care and don't fret of how much needs to be done - one step at a time, remember? :)

My grandmother used to pluck a couple magnolia buds every morning and leave them around the house. The place always smells wonderful.
