While I was having coffee in a little shop a few weeks ago, I looked over and saw light sneaking through blind on the wall, throwing a striped pattern on this plant and its pot. I tend to notice light patterns both indoors and outdoors and love how it plays with objects it touches.
Do you pay attention to light?
If you guessed that yesterday's What Is It Wednesday? was a rotting tree, you're half right. It was actually one of the posts holding up the fence separating our yard from the cow pasture behind us. Two days after I took the photos, the farmer replaced the rotting post with a metal one. We prefer the wood, but it's his fence! ;-)

It never occurred to me that this was a fence post. I should have thought of that as it would be a likely place for blue birds to build a nest in a cavity in a rotting post. Maybe this one was too far gone for that and now it is gone, period. And replaced by metal.
I don't remember the first comment on your blog but I remember you and your blog from a long time ago, it seems.
Since I really started studying photography the awareness of light and shadows is all consuming. I notice it everywhere and look at everything as a potential photograph. Occasionally it's maddening!
The stripes of light and the polka dots on the planter make a nice contrast!
My blog's birthday is 8.8.2007. I guess we both got into this around the same time.
I used to notice the light, as in, it's dark in here, turn on a light. Now I notice the Light. and the Shadow. and the Color. and the Texture. It's a multi-dimensional world, and your photo is a great example.
