One Day and Counting

Tomorrow is Election Day in the United States.

I am thrilled that this never-ending campaign is finally going to be over. For almost two years, we have had to put up with the candidates and the pundits, the radio talk shows and the TV news and commentary programs, the accusations and the insinuations, the maneuvering and the backpedaling, the name-calling and the fact-twisting. No one person or political party is innocent. They all do it.

I think one of the most important rights - and responsibilities -  we have in this country is the right to elect our leaders. The system is not perfect, and neither are the people we elect. They're as human as we are, and their election to office does not turn them into divine beings. We have to remember that when this thing is finally over. Whoever wins this thing is going to have a long road to hoe to fix the problems (the economy, the war, our dependence on foreign oil and gas, our reputation in the world, our position in the world and more) facing this country. He is not going to be able to fix them overnight, and he is not going to be able to fix them alone. It's going to take time, and it's going to take all of us working together - as US citizens, not as democrats or republicans or independents - to fix this mess.

No matter which candidate you back, I hope you vote tomorrow.

We have the freedom to elect our leaders but there are those in opposition who have the freedom to say and do things that would take our freedoms away.

Chris, I enjoyed reading your comments, which are my sentiments exactly. I wish that we could have true campaign finance reform. The amount of money that has been spent by all candidates during these 2 years is obscene. Think of how many African children affected by the AIDs scourge could benefit. Yes, this certainly is an imperfect world, despite all of our many advantages!

Thank goodness it's almost over! And it seems like just yesterday we were going thru our primaries =)
And please, in 2 or 4 years, don't let the democrats be blamed for all these problems the republicans have created over the past 8+ years that they've been in charge of the senate, house and presidency!

If Obama wins, I expect to see a wave of retirements in the supreme court - and i think those justices holding on for a new direction are truly watching out for America's best interests too!

Happy Election Day, Chris! Uno mas dia!! Y si, se puede! YES WE CAN!

I am definitely voting! I just hope the lines aren't too long. I wish we had early voting here in Mississippi like they did in other states. I would definitely have taken advantage of that.

Abe- I think you're right in a lot of ways. We need to get rid of the stupid Electoral College.

Kate- I have said that the money these guys and organizations have wasted on smear campaigns could help a lot of children and elderly in this country. I think they should put the left-overs into the economy.

Jim- Ditto here. . .afraid of the tactics that are coming on.

Brian - You know how I feel about it. All I can ask is this: Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago? Some people look at me like I'm nuts when I ask that, but, in the end, they all admit they aren't.

Halcyon- I think we all need to get to early voting.

I think almost everyone agrees with you Chris, but nothing ever seems to change. I plan on voting tomorrow, but the winner in Massachusetts is a foregone conclusion:) I hope we are not the only ones this time to vote Democratic. Did you ever see the political cartoon after the McGovern defeat with Massachusetts out in the middle of the Atlantic? If it didn't hurt so much it would have been funny. But that was then and tomorrow is a new day.

I wouldn't miss exercising my right . . . my "foremothers" fought too hard for it and went to jail for the right.
To answer your questions: Quincy is is a neighboring city south of Boston. My husband and blogging partner, "Clueless", works in Boston and used to do 2 photo blogs! We live in Quincy, where I work. With my partner's encouragement, I took over the Quincy blog a year or so ago and am having a great time with it.

Fabulous, Chris! We are all hoping and pray it will be President Obama this time tomorrow morning. Take a look at Menton DP to see who my dog is voting for.
